The Cairns Historical Society collects documents, photos, film and objects from the Cairns area and makes them available to the public. Please feel free to submit your own material or update information about our content, respectfully.
The Cairns Historical Society was formed in 1958 to record the written, pictorial and oral history of North Queensland.
The Historical Society manages the Cairns Historical Society Museum, as well as library and research facility.
The collection includes some 30,000 documents, 20,000 photographs and 7000 objects, all donated or acquired from the people of Cairns.
- The library and research facilities are open to members, the general public, students, professional researchers, authors and family historians alike. A small charge is levied on non-members for the use of the facilities.
- A catalogue of these items is accessible through a computer at the research facility.
